Although I love the simplicity of evazote it simply takes up too much space backpacking. Self-inflating pads are more grounding than inflatable ones, but their weight render them challenging.
That's why I've landed on this mylar film pad that, while heavy, packs smaller and provides more direct warmth than inflatable pads of similar R-value with synthetic or down fill. Its stretch knit top is more comfortable and much quieter than older pads with static top fabric.
